Some recent images that stand out for me ...

Evening stretch

Cape gannets Morus capensis on Malgas island. This image was awarded first place in the 2013 Oceans of Life Photographic Competition.

Stranded false killer whales

A sad sight - heavy seas crash in the background as two dead stranded false killer whales lie on the sand of Noordhoek beach. April 2013.

Scarborough high tide

Stormy seas and clouds set the scene for my first photo-op with the Lee ND Grad filter kit. 6 second exposure.

Imizamu Yethu fire

This image won the category of Best Print in the Western Cape Interclub competition of 2012. It captures the drama, energy and desolation of these tragic events.

High lifting a whale onto the synchro lift

A stranded false killer whale is lifted by crane from a truck before being released. April 2013

Fire in Franschhoek. Jan 2013

Encountered a fire unexpectedly in Franschhoek, and was able to get some shots of the helicopters in action.

Zebra splash abstract

The panicky behaviour of a herd of zebra at a waterhole lent itself to some creative framing. This image is my favourite from that sequence.

Green backed heron

The graphic nature of this image really appealed to me, so I desaturated the background, and muted the colours of the bird for effect.

Terns at Olifantsbosch

Always a favourite for me - capturing the motion blur beauty of antarctic terns in flight.

Almost on the rocks

The Eihatsu Maru was lucky to avoid the nearby rocks when she ran aground

Reflections of stranded fishing vessel

The stranded Eihatsu Maru is reflected in the wet sand of the receding tide.
